Brownie Packs-LIST BROWN OWLS!!!!!!!!

Top tip for prospective Brownie Young leader:

Never be afraid to get dirty - as the young member of the leadership team, the brownies will recognise you as more of an older friend than a guider, and will consequently expect you to join in with everything they do!

Ahh they've finished the activity more quickly than planned and the parents won't be here for another 15mins- what do I do?

- More than likely they've not tidied up properly - offer to award points to those who help out - strangely enough they'll all become very helpful after that!!
- Get them into a circle and sing a couple of songs - if you can add actions, all the better
- Show and Tell - each girl tells the others one thing that they have done in the last week that was interesting

Favourite songs for Brownies (ones that we probably don't have in our song list):

Snail, my ship sailed from china, parakeet, fizzy drinks, eidelweiss

Snail:

Snail, Snail,
Come out and be fed,
First your feelers, then your head
Then your mother and your father
Will feed you fried mutton

This is sung all holding hands in a circle - the leader then breaks off and spirals inwards - the whole group subsequently follows and end up back in a circle but facing outwards. Spiral in again to return to start!

My ship sailed:

My ship sailed from China
With a cargo of tea
All laden with presents for you and for me
They brought me a fan
Just imagine my bliss
When I fan myself going like this,
Like this, like this, like this....

Repeat the song. Sung sat on the floor with legs out. Each time a fan is brought another body part sways from side to side like a fan.
Right arm
Left arm
Right leg
Left leg
Nod head

Parakeet:

I am a parakeet
I don't get enough to eat
'Cos my owners, 'cos my owners
Are so stingy.
They give me sardines every night
That's a food that I dislike
'Cos I'd rather, 'cos I'd rather
Have icecream and coke

This song has actions which are adapted for different countries. It's not very PC but the girls love it!!
Scottish - small actions
American - big actions
Australian - upside down
Irish - mix up the actions

Favourite games for Brownies:

Singing games generally: two fat ladies, Cameroosa, zombies (like penguins)
Also who stole the cookies, and card games involving making animal noises and finding partners!!!

Who stole the cookies:

Basic rhythm is created through clicks or claps/knee slaps
Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar?
_______stole the cookies from the cookie jar.

Not I stole the cookies from the cookie jar
_______stole the cookies from the cookie jar
(this verse is repeated as often as necessary, with the person last named taking over the rhyme)

The brownies enjoy a game involving animal families.
Each girl is given a card with either an 'adult' or 'baby' animal written on it.
The cards are collected in, then the fun starts!!
Each baby animal needs to wander around the room making their animal noise.
The mother animals must find each of her babies by the noises alone, and take them to a safe place in the room.
